Real Madrid coach stands by Vinicius Junior on racism issue

Carlo Ancelotti has once again stood by the Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior on the racism issue. The Real Madrid coach believes that these incidents are not only a problem for his students, but for the whole of Spanish football.

Starting in November 2021, Vinicius was subjected to racist behavior several times during the team's matches at the Nou Camp and during the matches against Atletico Madrid also. The racist chants towards Real Madrid star took place also in against Mallorca last Sunday in the league.

In a video posted on social media by streaming company Dajon, a section of Mallorca fans can be seen calling Vinicius a 'monkey'. The Vinicius are now in Morocco to play in the Club World Cup. The most successful club in Europe will play next Wednesday against Egyptian club Al-Ahly in the semi-finals. Ancelotti's press conference on Tuesday before this match raised the issue of racist behavior towards Vinicius.

The Italian coach said, "He has no explanation for this continuous movement. He thinks it should be resolved. This is the problem of Spanish football and it must be solved. His teammates should protect Vinicius. He is being victimized by something I do not understand.”

The incident with Vinicius is being investigated by the Spanish police. A mannequin wearing the number 20 jersey was hung from the bridge next to Atletico Madrid's training center before the Madrid derby last January. Vinicius' jersey number is also 20. Next to it was a red-and-white banner of Atlético, which read 'Madrid hates Real'.
