Real Madrid’s Dominance Continues: Kroos and Co. Defeat German Giants Dortmund

Kroos will end his career on a high note, potentially adding more glory at Euro 2024, having answered Julian Nagelsmann's call to return to the German national team.

Real Madrid extended their record with a 15th Champions League title by defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley. Toni Kroos highlighted the team's winning mentality, which often sees them prevail even on off days. "We were pretty lucky at first. We didn’t play well, but made adjustments and became more compact. After scoring, we improved significantly," Kroos explained in an interview with Jamie Carragher.

Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. were key players in the final, helping Real Madrid secure the victory. Reflecting on the club's resilience, Kroos noted, “You don't lose finals. It's crazy to think about the quality and mentality that separates this club from others. Six titles in the Champions League is something I never thought I’d achieve.” Kroos matched the record for most UCL appearances by a German player, equaling Thomas Müller's 151 appearances. After 464 appearances and over 20 major trophies with Real Madrid, including four European Cups, Kroos announced his retirement following the European Championship on home soil.

"I can only say thank you to all the Madridismo, the club, my teammates, and the stadium. These have been 10 unforgettable years," Kroos said emotionally. His gratitude extended to his family, as he shared, “I was pretty strong until I saw my children; that moment killed me.” Kroos also spoke to CBS, expressing amazement at his achievements. “Six titles in the Champions League is something I never thought I'd achieve. It’s all about quality and mentality, which is what sets this club apart.”

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid's coach, praised Kroos, saying, “He's finished at the top. It is not possible to go out better. He is a legend of this club, and we all thank him for his professionalism and attitude.”

Kroos concluded, “Amazing to end with a Champions League win. This was the plan, even though it's difficult to plan such things.”

As Real Madrid celebrates another historic victory, they also bid farewell to one of their most influential players, whose contributions will be remembered for years to come.
