With 39 needed of the last eight balls, Rinku rose to the occasion as he hit the last two balls of the 19th over, bowled by Josh Little for a six and four.
Rinku Singh says he was frustrated with himself when he was on 8 off 14 and was not able to connect the ball properly.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star Rinku Singh revealed that the bat he played with against Gujarat Titans was gifted by his skipper Nitish Rana. With 28 needed off 5 deliveries, Rinku Singh hits five successive sixes to win it for Kolkata against Gujarat Titans.
In a video posted by IPL, KKR skipper Nitish Rana asked Rinku about his batting and what was going through his mind in the last over.
Rana asked him, "Rinku how are you feeling now and everyone wants to know what was going through your mind when 28 was needed off the last five balls." Rinku replied, "There was a doubt in my mind as I was not playing well and was not able to connect the ball properly." With 39 needed of the last eight balls, Rinku rose to the occasion as he hit the last two balls of the 19th over, bowled by Josh Little for a six and four. Rinku divulged, "That six and four in the penultimate over gave me confidence." He also added, "I was not thinking much during those last five balls, I was just playing according to the merit of the ball."
Having shown a openhanded gesture Nitish Rana, who gave his bat to Rinku, could have given Rinku anything. Rana stated, "I gave you my bat and you hit those five sixes from it, if you want anything else from me, feel free to ask. This was the bat I used in Syed Mushtaq Ali and in the last season as well. I never wanted to give it, and when he asked for a bat, I just told him go and pick one for you, and he picked this one, deep down I knew this he will pick this bat only and now the bat belongs to him.”
Rana had a lot of praise for the hero saying, "I have never seen anyone, who is as kind hearted and pure as Rinku. We only play such kind of innings once or twice in our life, I might never play it. I am so happy for Rinku."
