Ruchi regrets missing IWL, sets focus on wearing the national jersey

The 17-year-old girl has already taken part in three national championships for Delhi in under-14, under-17 and the senior national championship this year.

Like Saloni Singh, Ruchi Yadav is another potential girl from Asia's second largest 'unauthorized' region on the outskirt of Delhi, Sangam Vihar. Her father Vijendra is an auto-driver. She is the second youngest of her three older sisters and two brothers.

The 17-year-old girl has already taken part in three national championships for Delhi in under-14, under-17 and the senior national championship this year.

But Ruchi never forgets the opportunity so far she obtained to participate in the Indian Women's League (IWL). Ruchi who has already impressed as a central attacking midfielder was called up by Gokulam FC last November. She practiced there for one month and impressed the coach even in a friendly match, but due to her examination of 11th standard, she was asked by her parents to go back home.

Ruchi speaking from her home recently said, "I still regret for having missed the premier women's football league this time. But the opportunity will come again. I have to wait for that, get prepared more."

Ruchi has already decided she will build up her career with football. Her parents are also supportive. The 12th standard student stated, "My parents support me. But at the same time they ask me to carry on studies also. I know how much struggle my father does every day to run our family. I must need to make admirable earnings from football and for that you need to wear senior India jersey.

Ruchi had a passion for football when she was a student in second class. They practiced on the cemented platform. Then Ruchi transformed her game, practicing seriously in the KKM under the observation of Anirban Ghosh. Like Saloni, she also gave credit to KKM for playing in several tournaments against the boys' team. She explained, "While playing against the boys you can be quicker. Your reflex action can be improved and you can also develop strength and stamina. I could realize the benefits of playing against boys while practicing in Gokulam FC."

Ruchi has idolized former Barcelona legend Xavi. She often watches Barcelona's matches, especially the games when Xavi was at his best. She commented, "I dream if I could send decisive passes as Xavi used to send. I try to bring accuracy to my passing during the training sessions. But I know it is not so easy, will take long time."
