Russell was run out in the penultimate ball and walked up to Rinku.
Andre Russell's rocking spell of 42 runs in 23 balls laid the foundation for KKR's win against Punjab Kings in the IPL match on Monday. KKR won the match by five wickets which put them in the fifth position in the point table.
Russell was run out in the penultimate ball and walked up to Rinku and uttered something. He said, "I hugged him and said, listen bring home the bacon for us. He said ok big man no worry." Rinku then hit the winner off the last delivery of Arshdeep Sing to the square leg boundary.
Russell admitted, "In any game with any other batter I am not sure I would have taken a run. I have never really done those things. I would rather back myself for the last delivery to do the job." He further added that with Rinku at the other end, it gives confidence. Russell described him as a fearless batter and said he has his shots ready wherever the ball may be delivered.
Russell's only advice to Rinku is to stay humble. He said, "He is a good friend of mine. A very funny guy I love him like my brother."
When asked what goes best for Rinku, Russell said that Rinku is calm and quickly gets in a position where he can face any delivery and have a shot ready for it. According to Russell, these factors are the key to Rinku's success. He further added that Rinku has a very simple technique.
PBKS bowling coach and former South African Charl Langeveldt, in a post-match press conference, told, "He is always a massive player and a game changer. We planned to keep him quiet."
