After Serena Williams, Sabalenka became the second woman to have reached the second consecutive US Open final.
The US Open finals are just around the corner. The toughest are moving forward leaving some surprising results. World number two Aryna Sabalenka advanced to her second consecutive US Open final on Thursday, overcoming Emma Navarro and a partisan crowd to move within one win of her third Grand Slam title. The two-time Australian Open champion defeated the 13th-seeded American 6-3, 7-6 (7/2) and will face either Jessica Pegula or Karolina Muchova in the final. Despite the loss, Navarro put up a fight, battling back from 3-5 down in the second set to force a tiebreak.
After Serena Williams, Sabalenka became the second woman to have reached the second consecutive US Open final.
The World No. 2 stated to the crowd in the Arthur Ashe Stadium - “Guys, now you're cheering for me. Wow. It's a bit too late,"
Sabalenka continued and disclosed she is confident about the final, saying - "I don't really care who I face in the final because today was a good test of the crowd cheering for my opponent and even if it is going to be Pegula, I don't care. I'm ready to face whoever.”
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, last year's US Open runner-up to Coco Gauff, relied on her power to take the first set, neutralizing Navarro's clever angles. After an early break was leveled by Navarro, Sabalenka regained control in the sixth game, sealing the set with 16 winners, double Navarro's tally.
Sabalenka initially gained a 3-2 advantage in the second set after breaking Navarro, who then had to save more breakpoints to prevent a 2-5 fall. This gave Navarro a renewed push, and she broke Sabalenka when she served for the match, evening the score at 5-5. However, in the tiebreaker, Sabalenka continued with renewed vigor and took the victory stance.
