Saina Nehwal withdraws from the selection trial for Asian Games

Asian Games this year, is scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from 23rd September to 8th October.

The two time-Commonwealth Games champion Saina Nehwal will not appear for the selection trials for the Asian Games this year, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from 23rd September to 8th October. 

According to secretary of Badminton Association of India (BAI) Saina has informed she is not going to take part in the trials due to fitness issues. The trial will be staged at the Jwala Gutta Academy of Excellence in Telangana from 4th to 7th May. 

BAI Secretary told to PTI, “Saina will not participate as she has some fitness issues. Men’s pair Kushal Raj and Prakash Raj has also withdrawn from the trails.” 

Saina last played in the Orleans Masters. Former World number one has been fighting with the injuries for quite a long time. She missed the Asian Mixed Teams Championship trials in January and trials for the Commonwealth Games last year.

BAI has selected PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj for the men’s doubles, and women’s pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand for the Asian Games based on BWF’s top 20 rankings.
