Sakshi Malik and Geeta Phogat announce Wrestling Champions Super League; WFI chief says federation has no role

Paris Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Aman Seherawat has also confirmed his participation in the League.

Rio Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Geeta shared a joint statement on social media platform on Monday announcing the format of Wrestling Championship Super League (WCSL). They also have confirmed the participation of Paris Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Aman Seherawat in the League. However, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Sanjay Singh said the Wrestling Champions Super League, announced by former wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Geeta Phogat, is like "people organizing dangals" and the federation has no role in it.

"That might be their personal thing. Like people organize dangals. WFI has no role in it and we don't support such leagues," the WFI chief told IANS.

Malik revealed also that the Wrestling Champions Super League (WCSL) is going to be a world-class international league that will strengthen the Indian wrestlers to dominate the sport globally.

“This league is a very commendable initiative that will help Indian wrestling greatly and therefore I want to be a part of it and support it fully,” Aman said.
