Former Srilanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya is all set to take over as the new head coach of Srilanka cricket team before upcoming T-20 series against India. Jayasuriya confirmed that he was approached by Srilanka cricket Board to replace Chris Silverwood.
After conclusion of T-20 World Cup, Chris Silverwood quit his job. Srilanka Cricket Board thinks Sanath Jayasuriya will be the perfect man for this role, because he has previous experience to work with Srilankan Cricket team.
Sanath Jayasurya told media, “I have been asked to take over coaching and I am happy to do it”.
Sanatha Jayasurya was an key player for Srilanka on his time. He represented Srilanka in 586 matches across all three formats. He had 42 centuries and 440 wickets on his name.
Srilanka did not performed well in last T-20 world cup. They won only one matches in group stages and did not qualify for quarter-final stage.
