Sancho Faces Past Trauma as Kroos Prepares for Final Real Madrid Bow in Champions League Showdown

As the Champions League final approaches, stories from two prominent players on opposing teams. Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund and Toni Kroos of Real Madrid, highlighting their unique journeys and struggles.

Jadon Sancho will be heading back to Wembley for Saturday's Champions League final when he will be part of the Borussia Dortmund squad taking on 14-time winners Real Madrid. He revealed the impact of the racist abuse he received after England's defeat in the Euro 2020 final. He was subsequently targeted by a barrage of online racist abuse, sparking widespread condemnation and a police investigation.

"This is still something that's in my head sometimes," Sancho told CNN in an interview, “I don't think I've fully recovered yet on that part, but I'm trying my best to get over that. The backlash we got from it, it wasn't nice. Being in London, not in a million years I would have thought that we would have received that, especially representing our country. It's a memory I try to block, but I can't act like it didn't happen. So this is one of those memories that you got to try to get past it and be positive.”

The 24-year-old forward admitted "To be fair, it felt surreal," he said. “Again, it still hasn't hit me. I'm sure in the next couple of days probably when we travel to London, that's when it's gonna hit me properly. It's kind of crazy, you know, I don't think anyone would have expected this -- me being in the Champions League final, especially where I came from. I'm just happy.”

On the other side, Real Madrid's Toni Kroos is preparing for what may be his final match with the club. Esteemed by his teammates and coach Carlo Ancelotti, Kroos's departure marks the end of a decade-long tenure filled with success.

In a conversation with The Guardian, Real Madrid team Shared their feelings on German Star. Ancelotti praised Kroos for his selflessness and immense contribution to the team, "We have been lucky to have him for 10 years. Toni could close his career with a Champions League and at an individual level he deserves it. But his career doesn’t need another Champions League. He has been a fantastic player for 10 years, he had made history with Real Madrid and in world football".

Teammate Vinícius Júnior expressed Kroos's influence on and off the field, "He’s an even better person than the player he is. He has been important not just for the club but, above all, for the young players who have turned up here. He deserves the farewell he got, all the people who were there for him at the Bernabéu, and now we have to do this for him".

Luka Modric also highlighted Kroos's invaluable presence, "Especially a player like Toni. I have been with him at Madrid for 10 years and he’s one of the players I have most enjoyed playing with in my career. It’s sad but it’s his decision".

As the Champions League final looms, the match at Wembley will be not only a battle for the prestigious trophy but also a poignant moment for Jadon Sancho as he contends with past challenges, and for Toni Kroos, who looks to cap off a stellar decade with Real Madrid.
