Sarfaraz’s century strengthens India’s hopes

India, trailing by 62 runs in the first innings, is at 294 for the loss of three wickets so far. Sarafraj is still batting with 107, while Rishabh Pant, coming out of Saturday's injury to relieve the Indian camp, is unbeaten with 23 so far.

Sarfaraz Khan struck his maiden Test hundred on the 4th day of the first Test between India and New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.

India, trailing by 62 runs in the first innings, is at 294 for the loss of three wickets so far. Sarafraj is still batting with 107, while Rishabh Pant, coming out of Saturday's injury to relieve the Indian camp, is unbeaten with 23 so far.

Sarfaraz returned to the first team after being benched in the Bangladesh series and capitalized on the opportunity.  The Mumbai batsman was dismissed for a three-ball duck in the first innings and made the necessary amends to come out all guns blazing in the second innings.

He was coming into the match after scoring a match-winning double hundred in the Irani Cup match against the Rest of India.

Sarfaraz was joined by Rishabh Pant on the morning of 4th day after Virat Kohli departed at 70 on the stroke of the last ball yesterday. Pant braved his knee injury and walked out to bat alongside Sarfaraz, who continued batting with a similar intent while also maintaining caution in overcast conditions.

Sarfaraz has hit 14 fours and three huge sixes so far. His knock was laced with some audacious hitting, including ramp shots and upper cuts.
