Saurashtra's Sheldon Jackson is now the highest six-hitter in Ranji Trophy history

The 38-year-old Jackson surpassed former India wicket-keeper Naman Ojha’s tally of 143 sixes with his first maximum of the match in his 100th Ranji Trophy appearance.

Veteran Saurashtra batsman Sheldon Jackson became the highest six-hitter in the history of the Ranji Trophy. He acquired the feat during the final league stage match against Assam in Rajkot on Thursday.

The 38-year-old Jackson surpassed former India wicket-keeper Naman Ojha’s tally of 143 sixes with his first maximum of the match in his 100th Ranji Trophy appearance. With over 6600 Ranji Trophy runs, Jackson ranks third among Saurashtra batsmen, behind Cheteshwar Pujara and Sitanshu Kotak.

Walking in at 4 during Saurashtra’s first-innings in a must-win game, Jackson’s milestone six came off Assam pacer Rahul Singh over cow corner.

Jackson has also recorded 19 of his 21 First-Class hundreds for Saurashtra, only behind Pujara’s haul of 25 centuries for the team. Having made his First-Class debut in the 2011-12 season, Jackson has accorded over 7000 runs in his career.

Jackson is one of only six batters recorded to have smashed over 100-plus Ranji Trophy sixes. Manish Pandey, Paras Dogra, Saurabh Tiwary, and Yusuf Pathan complete the club.

Jackson was integral to Saurashtra’s maiden Ranji Trophy triumph in the 2019-20 season where he topped the batting charts for the team with 809 runs at a 50-plus average. He struck three hundreds, including a match-winning century in the semi-final. Jackson scored 588 runs in the 2022-23 season when Saurashtra lifted their second title while scoring 160 in the semi-final against Karnataka.

In the first five rounds of the ongoing edition, Jackson aggregated 238 runs in seven innings with two fifties.
