Sayan waits for debut, EB gets punished on age-violation

East Bengal has reportedly faced severe punishment for having fielded the over-aged footballers in the under-18 elite youth league match against Mohun Bagan this season.

Sayan Bannerjee, the promising forward from Kalighat MS is now keenly waiting for his debut with the red-and-gold jersey.

Sayan who has already been recruited for the East Bengal’s reserve team on a three-year contract, has been taken in the senior team for the ongoing Super Cup. He also got into the 18-member squad in the team’s previous match against Hyderabad FC in the Super Cup although did not get the opportunity to play.

Sayan earned applause from the Kolkata football fraternity for his speedy runs down the flanks and a 53-second goal in the CFL premier division.

He seems elated with the training style of East Bengal’s Spanish coach Carles Cuadrat, especially his training with the ball and the training of passing variety.

However, East Bengal has reportedly faced severe punishment for having fielded the over-aged footballers in the under-18 elite youth league match against Mohun Bagan this season. It is learned that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has decided to suspend East Bengal footballers including the custodian who allegedly was over-aged. Mohun Bagan complained to the AIFF after being defeated in the mini-derby.

Incidentally, both East Bengal and its investor have agreed to follow chief coach Carles Cuadrat’s suggestion of replacing foreign footballers during the ongoing winter window. Cuadrat had reportedly advised the investor to try to rope in four to five footballers during the winter window. Iago Falque Silva has signed. One more footballer might be roped in during the winter window.
