Selfie Leads to punishment for North Korean athletes

The athletes of both Korea took selfies with their medals after the table tennis mixed events. North Korea's Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong won silver in that event. The gold-winning Chinese athletes were also in that picture.

Controversy arises surrounding the joyous occasion of Paris Olympics opening day, between the two Koreas. The contenders of two nemesis countries were seen clicking a selfie after their table tennis match. This action seemed to enrage the North Korean Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un. The North Korean players might face severe punishment for this act.

Initially, the controversy started when Olympic authorities indicated South Korea with North Korea’s full name. However, this flaw was quickly forgotten when the contenders of two warring cities met on stage. They showcased the sportsmanship on the premises and were praised by the world. It was surely a rare sight to behold.

When getting praised by the world, North Korean athletes faced severe problems in their country. They are accused of conspiracy against the nation by the authorities. An investigation was summoned upon them, to eliminate any “ideological evaluation” occuring from outsider influence. This investigation will occur in three stages if they satisfy the officers only then they can return to their profession. If they fail it may result in severe punishment.
