Shami has been sidelined since the ODI World Cup 2023 ended. However, the latest injury indicates a further delay of at least 6 - 8 weeks.
Indian star pacer Mohammed Shami has suffered an injury during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Shami was expected to make his comeback in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia in late November. However, a knee injury indicates a further delay for the pacer.
As published by the Times of India, the pacer experienced swelling in his knees during his recovery, which raised concern about his comeback.
Shami has been sidelined since the ODI World Cup 2023 ended. However, the latest injury indicates a further delay of at least 6 - 8 weeks.
While talking to Times of India, a BCCI source stated - “Shami had resumed bowling and was on track to make his return to competitive cricket soon. But his knee injury has flared up recently. BCCI’s medical team is assessing the injury but it may require a bit of time,”
The source further claimed that the medical team at NCA is facing a greater challenge with the recent injury, as they had been working with him for nearly a year. They were committed to getting him back on the field soon, but after four months of rehabilitation, surgery became a last resort.
