Shami to Miss Adelaide Test as BCCI Holds Back on Border-Gavaskar Return

Shami made an impressive comeback in a Ranji Trophy game against Madhya Pradesh, claiming seven wickets and scoring a crucial 39 runs to help Bengal secure a narrow 11-run victory.

Mohammed Shami is not in the BCCI’s action plan against Australia for the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Despite an impressive comeback in the Ranji Trophy, the 34-year-old pacer was not included in the squad for the Perth Test and is set to miss the second Test in Adelaide. Shami is focusing on regaining match fitness in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with the BCCI carefully managing his workload to avoid injuries and ensure a well-planned return to international cricket.

According to the Times of India report, the Cricket Association of Bengal stated, “There has been no conversation around trying to send Shami to Australia, at least for now. At the moment, the fast bowlers chosen for the tour and the first XI in the opening Test at Perth are doing their job very well”.

While Shami’s recent performance highlights his readiness for competitive cricket, the board remains focused on his long-term fitness, prioritising that over immediate inclusion.
