The striker who has already scored six goals and made three assists in the ISL.
Shivashakthi Narayana still remembers the picture. It was 2022. Bengaluru FC had just won the Durand Cup. Sunil Chhetri and Roy Krishna looked sweating, sitting in the line. The photographers were trying to take their pictures and Chhetri stopped them for seconds, called Shiva to sit between them, and ask photographers to take pictures saying, 'this boy is the new star of our team.'
Before stepping on to Fatorda Stadium in Goa on Saturday to take part in his maiden ISL final this 22-year-old striker of Bengaluru FC was remembering the words from his 'Chhetri Bhai' and also his brother.
Speaking to Parallel Sports recently, the striker who has already scored six goals and made three assists in the ISL said, "I am lucky that I am in the same team with the legendary footballer. Chhetri not only motivates me, but he also says me to enjoy the 90 minutes. He also advises me that every match is a final so that young footballers like me do not become panicked. Naturally, I am not much bothered about the final separately. I am taking the mental preparation which I take before every match. I will try to enjoy the 90 minutes tomorrow also."
Shiva did not forget to mention saying, "Mohun Bagan has regained form especially their midfield and defense has been consistent in the last few matches. So it will not be an easy match for any of the teams. But we have also a balanced side where footballers like Chhetri and Roy Krishna are there. Our experienced coach is also a treasure of the team."
Shiva already has a lot of phone calls from his friends, fans, and family members. He specially mentioned his brother's words saying, "My brother always tries to boost me before any crucial match and he says every match is like traffic. I should think of crossing traffic one by one. Then playing in any crucial match will not create additional mental pressure. I am doing that."
The immediate dream of getting a call-up in the senior national team has been fulfilled as Shiva has been selected among the probables for India's forthcoming tri-nation international competition. But Shiva did not sound much elated. He said, "I should keep my place in the senior Indian squad consistently. Then I can be happy."
