Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram surprised at 'no PCB officials' presence in the prize distribution ceremony

There was speculation that PCB members wanted to boycott the prize distribution function.

Despite India’s historic Champions Trophy triumph after 12 years, the prize distribution ceremony created a dispute as former Pakistan cricketers expressed surprise and anger about the absence of PCB members in the function.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar questioned the logic, saying, "I observed a strange thing. No one from the Pakistan Cricket Board was present. But Pakistan is the host of the Champions Trophy.”

Akhtar added, “Why did no one come here to represent PCB or to present the trophy? This is the world stage. They should have been here. Sadly, I could not see any PCB member even though it was hosted by us.”

Wasim Akram is also surprised and embarased with the absence of PCB members, said that some members of the board should have been there as chairman Mohsin Naqvi was unwell.

"From what I have learned, the chairman wasn't well, but the people from the PCB who were present in the final were Sumair Ahmad and Usman Wahla. These two guys were present, but neither of them was on the stage," Akram said on Sports Central's 'Dressing Room' show.

“The question now is that we were the hosts, weren’t we? How come even the CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board or whoever it may be who was representing that chairman was not on the stage? Was he not invited on the stage?"

"I don’t know what the story is, but it definitely looked odd to me as well while sitting here. It was very important to have a Pakistani on the stage. Even if he didn’t present the cup for the medal, somebody should have been there,” Akram added.
