three more stars in the team are frontrunners in the race for getting captaincy. They are New Zealand Skipper Tim Southee, Caribbean spinner Sunil Narine and all-rounder Andre Russel.
Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss most of the first leg matches of the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury. He has been suffering from a back injury for the last couple of weeks and was finally announced to be rested in India-Australia One Day International series as well. The condition of KKR Skipper is not that good to start the League phase of IPL since the start. Rather he is expected to miss at least six to seven matches of the starting phase.
So according to the situation so far, KKR team management had to choose their stop-gap skipper for the tournament. With Shreyas being sidelined three more stars in the team are frontrunners in the race for getting captaincy. They are New Zealand Skipper Tim Southee, Caribbean spinner Sunil Narine and all-rounder Andre Russel.
Now the format of IPL says only four foreigners are allowed in the first eleven. If veteran Tim Southee is given a captaincy role then only one foreign batter can be in the playing eleven as Caribbean all-rounder duo Sunil Narine and Andre Russel are not expected to miss any game. In absence of a specialist T20 batter like Shreyas Iyer, only one foreign positive batter would be a risk to take for Knight Team management. Andre Russel was not in a good form last year, so giving him captaincy might be a burden too.
So the equation before selecting a captain has been quite critical for the KKR think-tank. Sunil Narine was a good option for captaincy, but he failed to succeed when was allotted the captaincy of Abu Dhabi Knight Rider, a franchise of KKR winning only one out of 10 games. So skipper selection woes continued for King Khan's Knight team management.
