Shubman Gill surprises Rohit Sharma with an embarrassing question

India's dismal record against New Zealand in ICC events, noting that the Men in Blue have not defeated the Kiwis in ICC events since 2003.

Shubman Gill informed Rohit Sharma that he was questioned by someone in the post-match press conference regarding India's ‘dismal’ record against New Zealand in ICC events.

A video was posted by the BCCI in which Shubman Gill can be seen playfully challenging Rohit Sharma with some tricky trivia questions related to India-New Zealand matches in the World Cup. The interaction between Rohit and Shubman provided some light-hearted moments for the fans.

Shubman Gill told captain Rohit that shortly after India's 7-wicket victory against Bangladesh in Pune, he was questioned by someone in the post-match press conference regarding India's dismal record against New Zealand in ICC events, noting that the Men in Blue have not defeated the Kiwis in ICC events since 2003.

Gill: Someone asked me in the press conference that we haven't beaten New Zealand in an ICC tournament since 2003…

Rohit: That's true. But we are playing good cricket and that's all we can do from our end.

Gill: So, will we definitely end the streak on Sunday?

Rohit: See we don't play the kind of cricket where we guarantee anything. When we reach the ground, we'll have to do what we are doing as a team. We can't think too far ahead. Yes, we've not had the result in the past.

In the history of the ODI World Cup, India and New Zealand have played against each other nine times. Team India has won three of those encounters, with their last victory dating back to 2003, while New Zealand has defeated India in five of those encounters, including the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal.

India-New Zealand ODI World Cup clash in the ongoing tournament is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Dharamshala.
