Sindhu loses; India's campaign ends in Denmark

The 29-year-old badminton star, the two-time Olympics medalist went down 13-21, 21-16, 9-21 in a nearly hour-long clash.

PV Sindhu crashed out of the Denmark Open badminton championship, losing to the bronze medal winner in the Paris Olympics, Gregoria Tunjung in the quarter-final on Friday. With Sindhu’s exit, India’s campaign came to an end.

The 29-year-old badminton star, the two-time Olympics medalist went down 13-21, 21-16, 9-21 in a nearly hour-long clash. The world's eighth-ranked shuttle player Indonesia was at her best on the day despite Sindhu managing to claim the second game. Significantly, Tunjung had won just two matches from their last 12 encounters.

Top-seed An Se Young of South Korea will be the fifth-seeded Tunjung's semifinal opponent.

Tunjung displayed command of the proceedings and reeled off eight points in a row to take the first game rather easily.

The loss continues a season of discontent for the two-time Olympic medal-winning Indian, who returned empty-handed from the Paris Games.
