Sinner To Be the First Italian In US Open Final

The last American who won a Grand Slam Title was Andy Roddick in the US Open. That being said, Fritz and Tiafoe were no more than 5 at that time.

The US Open is about to select the Grand Slam Champion. With Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz unexpectedly eliminated in the first week, a new US Open champion will be decided on Sunday.

Jannik Sinner became the first Italian man to reach the US Open final, defeating the injured British player Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 in the semi-finals. He will face either Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe, both aiming to be the first American in a Grand Slam final in 15 years.

Sinner after the win stated that - “Jack and I know each other very well, we are great friends off the court,".

"It was a very physical match. He's so tough to beat so I'm excited to be in the final.”

In a tough three-hour match, Draper, the first British man to reach the semi-finals since 2012, was ultimately defeated by 10 double faults, 43 unforced errors, and his illness.

World number 25 Draper entered his first Grand Slam semi-final, having only been broken three times in five rounds and without losing a set. However, Sinner ended that streak with a break for a 4-3 lead, though Draper quickly responded. The Briton was broken again after his sixth double fault in the 11th game, and Sinner sealed the set with a love game.

Sinner dominated the tiebreak to take a two-set lead, as Draper appeared exhausted and slowed down, allowing the third set and match to slip away.
