Souvik remembers Roberto Carlos, training days at Central Coast Mariners

The Red-and-Gold Brigade returned on Saturday morning from Thimpu, Bhutan, ensuring a berth in the quarter-final of the AFC Challenge League with a brilliant two consecutive victories against Basundhara FC of Bangladesh and Lebanon’s Nejmeh SC.

Souvik Chakrabarty is the only footballer in the present East Bengal squad who is proficient as both an attacking midfielder as well as a defensive screen. His passing accuracy has taken him to the next level.

The Red-and-Gold Brigade returned on Saturday morning from Thimpu, Bhutan, bouncing back from the debris of six consecutive defeats in the ongoing ISL to ensure berth in the quarter-final of the AFC Challenge League with a brilliant two consecutive victories against Basundhara FC of Bangladesh and Lebanon’s Nejmeh SC on Friday and Souvik Chakrabarty had played a major role in guiding the team deliver attacking brand of football, especially against the Lebanese side in Friday’s match.

Souvik who has placed this come-back and reaching the quarter-finals as his best gift so far, keeping the team's Super Cup victory in the second position was remembering his days at Delhi Dynamos, nine years ago from 2014 to 2016. He has no doubt that the maturity he has developed in his game, especially with the ball was the hard work under the observation of Delhi Dynamos coach, the legendary Roberto Carlos.

Souvik who believes he has gained from all the foreign coaches he played under, has a special memory with Carlos. Although he was played as the right-back at Dynamos, he cannot forget the advice of Carlos about controlling the ball which has ultimately helped him to earn precision.

Simultaneously, the 34-year-old midfielder cannot forget the one-week training at Central Coast Mariners, the A-League club. He was sent by Delhi Dynamos for the training. He believes these were the foundation of today’s progress.

East Bengal footballers however are thanking their newly joined coach Oscar Bruzon for his style to motivate them. The depleted footballers were mentally charged by the coach after they reached Thimpu to play in the AFC Challenge League with consecutive six defeats in the ISL.

The East Bengal footballers are impressed by Oscar's desperation while motivating them in the dressing room before their match against Basundhara FC.
