Sports adviser promises of security; Shakib might play at home against South Africa

Shakib announced his retirement news after India Bangladesh's first test was in Chennai. However, amidst all the political unrest and accusations surrounding him, Shakib’s appearance is yet to be confirmed in the test match.

Hasan might be seen playing against South Africa at home. Sports adviser Asif Mahmud has assured that the highest level of security will be arranged for Shakib, ensuring the all-rounder’s safety. 

After Shakib announced his retirement plans, speculation surrounding his participation in the upcoming home Test series against South Africa has intensified, particularly given his involvement in a murder case alongside former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Ashraf Mahmud told the reporters that the officials hoped that Shakib could draw an end to his test career in his home ground. He further stated that the government of Bangladesh is committed to providing the players with the highest level of security, and Shakib is no exception. 

“He (Shakib) is a player who has contributed a lot to the country. Since he wishes to play his final Test match in Bangladesh, I personally hope he gets that opportunity,” Asif Mahmud stated. 

He further assuringly stated - “We will absolutely provide the highest level of security for our player. If there are any allegations against anyone, that is a different issue. I cannot comment on that, as it falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Law. However, we have already committed to ensuring Shakib Al Hasan’s security, and we will honour that commitment,”.
