Sujata however has a noble mission with Sreebhumi FC.
Sreebhumi FC won its first match of the Kanyasree Cup Super-Six phase easily, trouncing Jyotirmoy AC 10-0 on Thursday. Rimpa Halder struck four goals while Sonali Soren and Moushumi Murmu scored twice each and Yulam Lali and Rubina Khatun scored one each for the winner.
However, the match was delayed to kick off on the day. Sreebhumi was originally allotted the first ground of Bidhannagar Municipality Complex.
But surprisingly, the team was asked to play on the second ground at the Complex which was not at all conducive to play. Following objection from the club the match was shifted to the first ground.
Despite having started their Super-Six campaign in style on the day, Sreebhumi club officials seem a little anxious about the illness of their central defender Mini Roy.
The footballer was admitted to hospital five days ago and is unlikely to return to the field soon. Sreebhumi’s experienced and former Bengal coach Sujata Kar also admitted that Mini’s absence is a factor. But she opined, “We have an impressive reserve bench. I am optimistic that Mini’s absence will be fulfilled.”
Sujata however has a noble mission with Sreebhumi FC. She wants to explore and scout more potential Bengali footballers. He even wants a maximum number of Bengali footballers in the team if Sreebhumi FC earns qualification for the IWL second division.

She explained, “I want IFA should introduce an under-17 girls’ football league also which will help to explore and scout potential footballers for the future and if an under-17 league starts then clubs like Sreebhumi will come forward with more developmental projects for the women's football. I have a desire to explore and scout more potential Bengali footballers for the team if we qualify for the IWL second division so that the club does not have to rely on the footballers of other states."
In other match of the Super-Six phase New Akipore Suruchi Sangha defeated West Bengal Police SC 2-0. Sanjana Kerketta scored for the winners.
