Sri Lanka Spinner Faces Ban for Withholding Match Fixing Information

In August, ICC brought corruption charges against the young spinner for violating two articles of Anti Corruption Coda. Jayawickrama was given 14 days to respond to these charges, starting on 6th August and ending on 20th August.

Praveen Jayawickrama, a Sri Lankan left-arm spinner has been banned from all forms of cricket for a year, of which "six months will be suspended," as per the ICC. 

Jayawickrama was accused of withholding information about a match-fixing offer in international cricket and the Lankan Premier League (LPL), as well as failing to report details of a similar offer made to another player. Along with, deleting the alleged conversations related to fixing. 

In August, ICC brought corruption charges against the young spinner for violating two articles of Anti Corruption Coda. Jayawickrama was given 14 days to respond to these charges, starting on 6th August and ending on 20th August. 

The player has admitted to breaching Article 2.4.7 of ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code, denoting -“Obstructing or delaying any investigation that may be carried out by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with, or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code.”

The charges concern both international cricket and the Lanka Premier League. In accordance with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the ICC took action under Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Anti-Corruption Code to address the issue.
