State sports minister Arup Biswas was explosive on Bengal's disastrous exit from both Ranji Trophy as well as Santosh Trophy on Tuesday. Along with novelist Shirshendu Mukhopadhayay he was invited to inaugurate the sports library at Mohun Bagan club on the day. While giving a speech there, the sports minister blasted at the state's ruling bodies in cricket and football. He raised questions saying, "I heard the opening batsman who was fielded in the final did not even have experience of participating in first class cricket. I heard several batsmen have already been experimented in the opening position in Ranji Trophy this season. How can it be?" Biswas added stating, "The similar condition was in the case of Bengal football team also. It had a disastrous exit from Santosh Trophy. I heard the team selection was not properly made. Most of the footballers were selected on reference. Following our chief minister's encouragement our TMC government has been spending a lot for the sports. Now the budget has been increased to around Rs 800 crore from the previous budget of Rs 500 crore. But what is the gain? We are spending money and the teams are being selected on 'quota' system and there is no result. I feel ashamed of saying myself the sports minister of this state."Former sports journalists Rupak Saha and Ratul Ghosh were felicitated in the function.
