Stimac held a lack of combination and proper passing responsible for the disappointing defeat

Sunil Chhetri, playing 150th international match scored his 94th international goal in front of the packed stadium including his parents.

Igor Stimac, the chief national coach, visibly upset with India’s 2-1 loss held incorrect passing and lack of combination in the midfield and upfront mainly responsible for the disappointing defeat against Afghanistan at Nehru Stadium on Tuesday evening.

While speaking to the broadcaster after the match Stimac said, "There was a lack of combination and incisive passing in the central midfield and the striking zone. That was added by two silly goals.” He also expressed frustration over the performance of the substitutes who were fielded.

The Croatian coach however revealed he is still optimistic about reaching the third round of the World Cup qualifiers. 

He added, "I'm still confident of achieving our targets (WCQ R3) in June, not pleased with what we saw tonight. Substitution are made to have some impacts and today there was none. I'm sorry for what happened but I expect much better in June."
