Sujata wants extensive training and exposure for Bengal girls

Sujata is now in Berhampore, working as the All India Football Federation-appointed spotter.

Sujata Kar, the former India international footballer and coach wants extensive preparatory camp for the Bengal girls' football team in the future.

Sujata is now in Berhampore, working as the All India Football Federation-appointed scout. She has already shortlisted around 12-13 promising girls.

Along with Bengal, a few girls from Haryana have also impressed Sujata. She is however impressed by the improvement of the girls' standard saying, “The girls' football is improving rapidly. However, the national team is not often built based on our reference. It depends on the appointed coach finally.”

When asked about Bengal's 10-0 triumph against Chhattisgarh to reach the semifinal of the sub-junior national championship, Sujata stated, “There is enough potentiality in this team. But they had only a preparatory camp for around 10 days.”

"If the girls could exhibit such an impressive show after training for only 10 days, then the performance would have been more qualitative had the preparatory camp been for at least 45 days. I know that Haryana girls had a month's preparatory camp before they came here to Berhampore.”

The coach of Sreebhumi Sporting Club which will take part in the elite Indian Women's League (IWL) this season also explained that in a bid to provide match exposure for these young talented girls, a competition with sub-junior girls should be introduced in Bengal. "The guardians who still have doubts about allowing their daughters to play football can be encouraged by the introduction of such competition.

"Simultaneously, if you give these girls match exposure through a sub-junior competition then the girls will be more mature when they reach senior level. These girls can be asset for the Bengal’s senior national team in future,” Sujata concluded.
