Supreme Court judge says 'no' to Robinho's release.

Robinho was sentenced in Italy to nine years in prison for gang-raping an Albanian woman on 19th January 2022. Four people were found guilty of the crime.

Former Brazilian World Cupper Robinho did not get 'bail' from Sao Paulo jail. A judge at the Brazilian Supreme Court voted against the habeas corpus request made by the defendant’s defense.

Robinho has been in jail since March for a gang rape in 2013.

The former footballer's representation argues that there are no guarantees that the sentence can be served in Brazil, given that the events took place in Italy, and that, therefore, the player would have to be released until the Supreme Court makes a final ruling on the matter.

Following the judge's 'no', the trial was immediately and indefinitely suspended, meaning Robinho will remain behind bars until the matter is reopened. In addition, his lawyers argue that they can still appeal the sentence, meaning that the conviction against their client is not yet final.
