Suryakumar Yadav’s stunning knock steered Mumbai to defeat Gujarat Titans by 27 runs

Mumbai Indians became the first team to cross 200-run mark in a single IPL session on Friday.

Wankhede Stadium on Friday evening seemed to be in an illusion of a batsman. It was Suryakumar Yadav, fondly called SKY. His unbeaten 103 off 49 deliveries designed with six sixes and 11 fours with a strike rate of 210 created magic. Sachin Tendulkar looked mesmerized to have watched his power, and ability to execute all-round shots. While discussing with a Mumbai media scribe recently about Surya, Tendulkar expressed a firm belief that Surya who was struggling to score in the first few IPL matches this season was not going through the poor form. Sachin commented, “Someone who is able to hit the first ball he faces to fine leg with that timing is surely not struggling for form. Had it gone five meters either way it would have gone for six", he said. And then added, "All Surya needs to do is be there. He has the ability to demoralize opposition and beat them mentally". Even former Australian great Tom Moody also described Suryakumar as the 'genius' of the day.

Surya’s magnificent innings supported by Ishan Kishan’s quick 31 off 20 deliveries and Vishnu Vinod's 30 helped Mumbai Indians to cross the 200-run mark in a single IPL session. Mumbai finished at 218 for the loss of five wickets.

Gujrat Titans, the team that has been in fine form in the ongoing League however failed to cop up the pressure of 200-run and their innings ended at 191 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

Only Rashid Khan tried to install some noticeable resistance, both with the ball and bat. He was the only bowler to have scalped four wickets giving away 30 runs and returned an unbeaten 79 off 32 balls. Rashid apart, David Miller also tried to carry on the Gujarat innings, scoring 41 off 26 deliveries.
