Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee assures India a historic table tennis medal

Sutirtha and Ayhika won 11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9 victory over World No. 2 Chinese duo

The crucial victory over the world champion Chinese duo Chen Meng and Yidi Wang led the Indian players to advance to the women's doubles semifinals in table tennis at Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday.

The Chinese pair was expected to easily gain the upper hand over their opponents, however the exact opposite happened, as the Indians won the first game in just 8 minutes. The second game too was in the bag in just 9 minutes as the Chinese players made several unforced errors.

The host fiercely fought back to gain the third game. But the Indians quickly asserted their dominance in the fourth game once again and emerged triumphant.

In the quarterfinals, Sutirtha and Ayhika won 11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9 over World No. 2 Chinese players. This victory is very significant as India has never won a medal in the women's doubles event in the Asian Games.
