Swastika gets chance in ‘Mixed World Cup’, says playing in German league is helping her to develop

Along with Swastika, Moumita Dutta, Poymanti Baishyo and Archana Kamath have also been selected in the women’s section of the team.

Swastika Ghosh has been selected for the Indian team for the 'Mixed World Cup' table tennis championship to be held in Chengdu, China from 4th to 10th December.

The World Cup in this new format is going to be held for the first time where a team will consist of four men and four women and the competition will feature a thrilling amalgamation of men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.

Along with Swastika, Moumita Dutta, Poymanti Baishyo and Archana Kamath have also been selected in the women’s section of the team.

Swastika who clinched two gold medals in the recently-concluded National Games said, “I am naturally excited to have been called up in the national team for the World Cup which will take place in the new format for the first time.”

Swastika's National Games gold medals came in the team events and the doubles event. She lost in the semi-final in the singles.

Still, she sounded satisfied with her present form and believes playing in the German League is helping her a lot in developing the game. She explained, "The environment is completely different. German League is a professional league. I represented the First division German team Kolbmoor. The team had two former top paddlers. Practicing with them was a big boost. Significantly I played four matches and won all of them.”

Swastika's coach and father Sandip Ghosh added, "Sharath Kamal has been participating in the German Professional League for more than two decades and his consistency in the international competitions is vivid. I want Swastika to gain the consistency in the international competitions. You can get the opportunity to participate in the tough matches and improve your standard."

Swastika will again leave for Berlin on 17th November to participate in the German League and will also take part in a WTT competition to be held in Portugal.
