Syria lift Intercontinental Cup, humiliating India

India faced a 0-3 defeat against Syria in their second and final match of the 2024 Intercontinental Cup in Hyderabad, GMC Balayogi Stadium on Monday. Placed team India last in the tournament, just behind Mauritius due to goal difference.

Manolo Marquez stated after the game that - “I am angry with the first half...don’t like teams who are scared. The first goal could have been avoided. The scoreline doesn’t paint the real picture, we deserved to score. They killed us in the attack,” he said.

“Today we still had chances, unlike the last game. We were brave in this second half,” the coach continued on a positive note.

Although India had several opportunities in the second half, Daleho managed to double their lead for the Syrian team, but Gurpreet failed to stop the shot. The final goal of Syria came from Pablo in the added time.
