He drew the attention of the city's football fraternity after being the top scorer for BFA, scoring six goals in the 10 matches of the CFL First Division last season.
Tanbir Dey is another new kid on the block in the Bengal football fraternity. The student of Bengal Football Academy (BFA), run by the state sports ministry, scored 21 goals in the 11 matches he participated all the competitions for BFA, including the preparatory matches. Still, his striking capability was not much discussed.
Finally, he drew the attention of the city's football fraternity after being the top scorer for BFA, scoring six goals in the 10 matches of the CFL First Division last season.
Tanbir hails from a village named Duttafulia in Nadia district. The son of a school teacher had to spend one sleepless night on the streets of Kolkata with his mother before his first selection trial at the Kolkata Sports Authority of India (SAI). He finally was selected and stayed at SAI Kolkata for years.
Even after having scored six goals in 10 matches the wing-striker said, “I should not be complacent at all. I have to go a long way. Now my focus is on the Youth League. I want to continue scoring as I did in the CFL First Division.”
BFA will be playing in the Youth League this year. Tanbir has also been called up in the state school team to participate in the national school football championship.
An ardent fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, Tanbir likes to keep himself fit even when he goes back home from BFA. "I do speed-training, shooting, and agility training at the local ground near my home to keep myself fit,” Tanbir added.
