Tanvi Patri: A new kid on the block in Indian badminton

After the visible struggles of Indian Badminton players in the Paris Olympics, this glimpse of hope is very evident from this class eight student after Patri qualified for the quarterfinals at the German Junior International

Indian Badminton is seeing a new glimmer of hope. Tanvi Patri, a thirteen-year-old, secured the status of being India’s next most promising badminton phenomenon. Tanvi already created a sensation by clinching the U-15 title in Chengdu, China for the U-15 Badminton Asia U-17 also U-15 Junior Championships. 

Patri delivered a stellar performance throughout the week, in the 34-minute final match she defeated Thi Thu Huyen Nguyen 22-20, 21-11 of Vietnam. 

After the remarkable performance, she stated in an interview with PTI that - “I had expected to win, and I’m happy I could do that. I’ve been training at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bangalore for the last two years.”   

Tanvi started her badminton practice at a very young stage in China when her parents used to work there in a software company. 

Director of PPBA, Vimal Kumar, has spoken about the potential in the young player, comparing her to the younger P. V. Sindhu.  

“She was about eight or nine when she moved to India and joined the academy in 2022,"  stated Vimal.
