Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and other protesting wrestlers were frustrated with the IOA president P.T. Usha’s comments on the issue.
Brij Bhusan Singh, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP, on Thursday, released a personalized video stating “The day I feel that I have lost the strength to fight and feel helpless I will embrace death.”
Star Indian grapplers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia are exhibiting an ongoing protest against the WFI chief accusing him of sexual harassment and mistreatment with athletes.
However, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and other protesting wrestlers were frustrated with the IOA president P.T. Usha’s comments on the issue. Usha said the wrestlers could have approached the IOA’s sexual harassment committee before sitting on 'dharna' at Jantar Mantar. Usha had also commented that the country's image has been affected by the protest and it was not good for sports.
Olympic Gold Medallist Abhinav Bindra supported the wrestlers. He twitted that it is sad that the athletes who train hard to represent the country are forced to protest sitting on the street on being harassed. He further added that his heart is always with the protesting wrestlers.
The protesting wrestlers held a candlelight march against WFI on Wednesday. Speaking to the media Sakshi Malik said “We urge PM Modi to listen to our Man Ki Bat.” She added that no FIR has yet been filed against WFI instead they are waiting for Supreme Court justice.
