The first-ever floodlight match of Mohammedan Sporting was marred by spectator's death and chaos

the significance of floodlight match was spoiled by the on-field chaos, supporters’ interruption and entering the ground and finally the death of a fan, named Rajkumar.

After Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting also hosted the team’s match under floodlights for the first time on Thursday.

But the significance was spoiled by the on-field chaos, supporters’ interruption and entering the ground and finally the death of a fan, named Rajkumar.

The supporter who was sitting in the members' gallery came down and was shouting against the referee Dipu Halder. He was plagued by a cardiac arrest within a few minutes and declared dead in the hospital.

The match was halted for nine minutes as the fans were throwing brickbats and water bottles and then they looked to cross over the fencing and enter the ground even. The team were trailing by a goal at that time. Along with the police, the club secretary Ishtiaque Ahmed, football secretary Dipendu Biswas, the coach Shahid Raman requested the angry fans to become quiet.

Then again, when the Black Panthers equalized the score line the 17 minutes’ additional time, a large section of the jubilant fans again rushed to the ground and police had to struggle a lot to clear the ground.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) representatives came to visit Mohammedan Sporting Ground and infrastructure on Wednesday. The club executives were hoping that their I-League matches this season would be allotted to home ground. The AIFF representatives were happy to have seen the ground but advised the club officials to increase the height of the fencing so that the supporters could not cross over the fencing to hamper any match. But after Thursday's chaos, it can be said that uncertainty looms large over their scope of hosting the team’s League matches at home this season.

A senior club official Belal Ahmed admitted saying, "The referee failed to control the match when we were trailing. The supporters became restless. Still, I cannot support the fans' anger and damage the game by crossing over the fencing. I do not feel the AIFF will give us permission to host our I-League home matches here after today’s chaos.”

Christopher Kamei gave Army Red the lead from a spot-kick. David Lalhlansaga equalized the score-line also from a spot kick to take his individual goals to 11 so far. Mohammedan Sporting almost ensured their berth in the Super Six stage with 25 points from 10 matches so far while Army Red garnered 18 matches from 11 matches so far.

Among the other CFL Premier Division matches on the day, Bhawanipore drubbed Police AC 6-0, Aryan edged past ASOS Rainbow 1-0, and Wari AC also edged past Kidderpore SC 1-0.
