The first woman video analyst in Indian football wants to work with the senior women's team

From a professional footballer, Anjitha today turned to the country’s first woman video analyst in Indian football after signing a professional contract with Gokulam FC senior women’s team for this season.

She is Anjitha M. The 23 years old hails from Bengalam village of Kasaragod district Kerala, around a three-and-half hours’ drive by car from Kozhikode.

Anjitha started her journey as a footballer and it could have been her profession. But while studying M.Com at Calicut University Anjitha’s journey took a turn, last year.

From a professional footballer, Anjitha today turned to the country’s first woman video analyst in Indian football after signing a professional contract with Gokulam FC senior women’s team for this season.

Anjitha started playing under her first coach Nitish Bengalam when she was studying eighth standard and without any social obstructions. Anjitha speaking over the phone from her home revealed, "I belong to a football family. My father was a goalkeeper. My cousin's brother used to play for Kerala Police. My cousin's sister also played for Kerala Blasters and she is currently playing in the elite IWL. So, when I started playing football during my school days all of my family members gave me huge support.”

Anjitha was a defender who participated in IWL with Mumbai Knights, in the Bangalore women's league with Bangalore Braves, and also represented Kerala Blasters in the Kerala women's league.

However, Anjitha disclosed there was no such special reason behind the shift from footballer to video analyst. She only revealed, "I learned about the thing and got interested during my playing days. Then I started researching the subject. My interest grew more. I completed an online course on video analysis from a UK-based company named Professional Football Scouting Association (PFSA) and finally got an opportunity to work with Muthoot FA for one month.”

Anjitha remembers the improvement of Muthoot FA’s performance in the RFDL after her joining as she cherishes the academy coach’s appreciation. “I could track and provide the needed corrections the coach wanted from me at Muthoot FA. It helped to gain my confidence.”

Anand Vardhan, Indian football's one of the prominent video analysts who was with Kerala Blasters followed by several leading club teams and the senior women's national team encourages Anjitha and gives advice.

Anjitha also did not hesitate to mention her coach Shareef Khan’s name, the first coach of Kerala Blasters women’s team stating, “His inspiration is also an asset for me.”

The video analyst seems to have set her immediate goal. Firstly, she wants to deliver her best for Gokulam FC this season. "I am thankful to Gokulam FC's top brass, especially Ashok sir for providing me the opportunity. My target is to track and provide corrective measures for the Gokulam women's team perfectly according to the requirement set by the coach," described Anjitha.

Secondly, Anjitha who is likely to help the Gokulam FC men’s team also has a dream of getting the opportunity to work with the women's senior national team in the future.
