The Golden cards gone in vain, Sarkar and Bardhan deprived of Arjuna

Shibnath Dey Sarkar the gold medal winner in Bridge in the 2018 Asian Games still laments for being deprived of the Arjuna award.

Shibnath Dey Sarkar the gold medal winner in Bridge in the 2018 Asian Games still laments. Despite having won the gold medal none of them has received Arjuna yet. Two renowned Bridge players from Bengal, Shibnath Dey Sarkar, and Pranab Bardhan won gold medals in the 2018 Incheon Asian Games. That was India's 15th gold in the mega event and India acquired the number of gold medals after a gap of 51 years. There was another importance. The desired gold medal in a game that had not been able to earn the status despite being hugely popular was expected to offer the status along with the country's other 'so-called' games. While speaking to Parallel Sports Sarkar revealed the negligence still hurts him.

Sarkar said, "What else is there to say? It might be the people who are sitting on the administrators' chairs didn't understand our game properly. I have not yet received Arjuna. We cannot move forward without recognition. The government must recognize us. They have to confer the awards. We also deserve the least amount of recognition. "

However, Sarkar confirmed he will take part in the Asian Games this year. He clarified, "We are going to participate in the Asian Games and this time, young potential players have been included in the team. The future of Bridge in India now lies with the new generation. They will move the game further."

But at the same time, Sarkar sounded angry when he quipped, "The young potential bridge players not getting any financial help from the government while the players of other sports disciplines are provided financial grants. But the game is hugely popular throughout the country. Even after our success, the government has not taken any initiative to introduce any training center where Bridge can be taught properly."

However, Sarkar is not sitting idle. He is teaching the game of cards to the young generation, trying to explore potential continuously. He is often seen teaching the magic of Bridge in Maidan and front of Shahid Minar. He has only purpose to spread the game among the new generation. Shivnath wants to move on. He does not want to be frustrated. He wants to produce more students who can represent the country one day.
