The hardship forced Tuli stop playing, and the international now dreams of producing future stars

She was one of the key members of the SAFF Champion senior Indian women's team in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Tuli Goon in her time was called one of the finest defenders in Indian women's football. She was one of the key members of the SAFF Champion senior Indian women's team in 2010, 2012, and 2014. She also was the captain of the senior national team once.

But luck was not with this 31-year-old international footballer. Tuli who originally hails from the southern part of Kolkata is posted in Guwahati as an employee of North Frontier Railway (NFR). She suffered from severe injuries in 2017 and then in 2019. She suffered a fracture on her back in 2017 and then was severely injured in a car accident in 2019. Still, she could be able to keep her dream alive. But Tuli did not get a suitable environment, especially in her office to continue her game.

Speaking from Guhawati over the phone, Goon said, "I work in the mechanical division in NFR and every sports person who works here with me has to do hard work like carrying engine parts, disjointing the screws and nuts. We get injured also while doing these types of work. Moreover, my home is 15 kilometers far from the office. Every day I go back home traveling 15 kilometers, cook for myself and then again return to the ground. It is almost impossible to continue a professional career."

Still, Tuli was trying to practice, calling a few of her office colleagues and local girls who play the game. But since the pandemic and lockdown took place everything stopped. Anyway, the former international has not fully dissociated herself from football. She has been training the kids (both boys and girls) at an academy constructed by NFR from the beginning of this year and simultaneously dreaming of entering the coaching profession within a couple of years.

"There is a ground beside our home in Kolkata where local boys and girls also come to practice. Whenever I go back home, I buy kits for those boys and girls as well as footballs also mainly to encourage them to think about playing seriously. I dream of producing women footballers who also will represent the country like me, "concluded Tuli.
