But, Rajasthan Football Association (RFA) secretary Dalep Singh Shekhawat is confident that the ground will be repaired before RUFC’s first home match in the I-League.
With only two weeks left before the commencement of the I-League 2024-25 season the Astroturf ground at VNI stadium Jaipur built recently for Rajasthan United's home matches in the forthcoming I-League was severely damaged by the fireworks on Tuesday.
Jaipur Police has already arrested two persons, believed to be cricket fans. Police suspected that they were involved in sabotage as they were reportedly burning the firecrackers on the artificial ground which cost nearly Rs 17 crore for the construction.
Initially, it was learned that Rajasthan United might play their home matches of the I-League in Kolkata unless the turf is repaired. But IFA secretary Anirban Dutta revealed that Rajasthan United has not appealed to the state association for its permission to play their home matches on any of the grounds in Bengal.
Rajasthan United will play away matches first and their first home match is scheduled on 19th December.
But, Rajasthan Football Association (RFA) secretary Dalep Singh Shekhawat is confident that the ground will be repaired before RUFC’s first home match in the I-League.
While speaking to Parallel Sports he said, "Along with Rajasthan United FC's home matches Santosh Trophy zonal matches are scheduled to be staged here. It is undoubtedly unfortunate. But we will do the patchwork and make the ground ready within the next few weeks. RUFC will be playing their home matches at this stadium."
