The petitioners still seek justice even after a new BSTTA committee is formed

Mantu acted as the vice-president of TTFI and joint-secretary of the BSTTA.

The Bengal State Table Tennis Association (BSTTA) overlooking the Table Tennis Federation of India’s (TTFI) directives to the state table tennis associations to follow the ‘national sports code’ mandatorily formed a new committee to resume the functioning of the association on 29th June.

Even, petitions from Bengal and North Bengal were filed at the Calcutta High Court against BSTTA's tendency to conduct elections and resume functioning without following the 'sports code'.

Significantly, former India international Mantu Ghosh and her husband Subrata Roy restrained them from contesting in the election. Mantu who acted as the vice-president of TTFI and joint-secretary of the BSTTA has quoted, "TTFI introduced the 'sports code' and made it mandatory in 2019. I immediately resigned from the TTFI vice-president's post and now stayed away from the BSTTA election for the same reason." Her husband Subrata Roy was the treasurer of BSTTA.

Significantly, BSTTA's founder members and former assistant secretary Anirban Ghose Dastider who is one of the main petitioners in this issue had already stayed away from the election.

When asked about the formation of BSTTA’s new committee, Anirban explained, "The table tennis fraternity is not only surprised but shocked also. How could this election be conducted without following the 'national sports code'? Several renowned players could contest the election. But they also gave respect to the sports code like Mantu Ghosh. There are at least 10 elected executives in the new committee who have violated the 'sports code'. Our fight for justice will continue."

He continued, "I am one of the petitioners. The petition was also filed by the North Bengal Table Tennis Association. I hope they also seek justice. Our appeal to the court will be to instruct the BSTTA to conduct the election again following the sports code mandatorily. Our fight for the implementation of national ‘sports code will continue”

Anirban also complained that despite the court order the Returning Officers did not reply to his mails. He said, “This Election was conducted without Compliance with the National Sports Code.

Writ was filed by me pleading for Compliance with the National Sports Code. Honourable judge instructed me to address my complaints to the Returning Officers. It was mentioned in the order that RO has to answer my queries. But ROs have not yet answered my emails despite the Court order.”
