The proud mother expresses joy with the success of her 'golden' son and daughter

The men's team defeated Slovenia and the women's team beat Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5 to clinch the title.

Ramesh Babu and his wife Nagalakshmi were seen visibly elated. They should be. Their children returned with a rare feat. Son Praggnanandhaa returned with the gold medal in the Chess Olympiad Men's Open section while daughter Vaishali returned with another gold medal in the women's battle of the same competition. The picture and the post have already been viral on social media, showing elated Nagalakshmi standing with her children with gold medals.

“We are very proud. Both my son and daughter won the gold medal. We are so happy that we cannot express,” said Ramesh Babu.

India made chess history on Sunday as its men's and women's teams clinched their maiden gold medals in the 45th Chess Olympiad after beating their respective opponents in the final round. 

The men's team defeated Slovenia after D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, and R Praggnanadhaa won their respective matches in the 11th and final round match. The women's team beat Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5 to clinch the title. 

Ramesh Babu also added, "All the team players have done very well and won gold medals. Nowadays, chess has become very popular after cricket. More and more people are getting interested. Apart from academics, playing chess is becoming a part of their career. Youngsters are taking it up as a career.”
