
The Ethiopian marathoner Dibolo won the prized 21-kilometer event in the men's category, recording 1:5.02 seconds to ensure the prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The third edition of the Manipal Sreebhumi Gold Marathon, under the patronage of state fire minister Sujit Bose and organized by Sreebhumi Sporting Club earned a huge success as nearly nine thousand participants were seen running in their respective categories on Sunday morning.
The enthusiasm expanded not only from West Bengal but also across the country and even outside the country. There were nearly 10 marathon runners from Africa who took part in the gala event on the day.
The Ethiopian marathoner Dibolo won the prized 21-kilometer event in the men's category, recording 1:5.02 seconds to ensure the prize of Rs 1 lakh. Arif Ali earned second place, finishing the 21-kilometer event in 1:5.04 seconds to earn Rs 75 thousand, and Abhishek became third in the race with 1:5.14 seconds to receive the cash prize of Rs 50 thousand.
In the women’s section, Amrta Patel showed her agility to clock 1:18.57 seconds to become the champion and win the prize of Rs 1 lakh. Puja Mondol from Kolkata was the runner-up. She clocked 1:19.06 seconds and received Rs 75 thousand as the cash prize. Nisha earned third place, clocking 1: 21 minutes to receive a cash prize of Rs 50 thousand.
In the 10 kilometers’ run Ashish Pal became the champion clocking 31.40 seconds while Ranveer and Utpal Mondol earned second and third spots, respectively. Ashish Pal was handed over Rs 50 thousand while Ranveer received Rs 30 thousand.
In the women’s category of the 10 Kilometers Bandana won the race while Neha Patel and Moumita Roy became the second and third, respectively.
The Olympians like shooter Joydeep Karmakar, archer Rahul Banerjee and Dola Banerjee, Olympian heptathlete Soma Biswas, and celebrities from Tollywood were present at the function to encourage the participants.
Along with them, renowned footballers like Jose Barreto, Alvito D'Cunha were also seen encouraging the participants.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma and his wife also took part in the 10 Kilometers run and he opined, "It has been a great effort by the state first minister Sujit Bose. Number of participants is increasing every year and it will increase more.”

Sujit Bose looked also optimistic about the growth of the Marathon stating, "In the first edition of the Marathon the number was around five thousand. It reached six thousand in its second edition in the last year. Now, in the third edition, the number has reached nearly nine thousand. So, thanking all the participants and the people who helped us to make the marathon successful, I also feel we will be able to witness more participants in the next edition."
