Tilak Varma on The Brink of Achieving Historical Feat in the 1st T20I Against England

Sanju Samson, with three centuries in his last five T20Is, aims to prove a point after missing out on the Champions Trophy squad, making this series a golden opportunity for him.

Rising Indian batting star Tilak Varma is poised to make history in the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. He might reach the unprecedented milestone of three consecutive centuries in T20Is.

The 22-year-old has dazzled with back-to-back unbeaten centuries, 107 and 120, against South Africa in November 2024. Now, Tilak will cement his legacy as a trailblazer in the cricketing world.

The youthful trio of Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Kumar Reddy has risen to the occasion, delivering match-winning performances and infusing energy into the squad. Among them, Tilak has been a linchpin in the middle order. His ability to balance aggression with calculated innings has eased the pressure on skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who remains a constant threat to opposition teams.

Sanju Samson, with three centuries in his last five T20Is, aims to prove a point after missing out on the Champions Trophy squad, making this series a golden opportunity for him. India will lean on the experience of Mohammed Shami and the fiery Arshdeep Singh to counter England’s power hitters like Jos Buttler and Phil Salt. Coached by Brendon McCullum, England's attack is bolstered by the return of star pacers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood.

As both sides gear up for what promises to be an electrifying series, all eyes will be on Eden Gardens, where history might just be rewritten by India’s latest cricketing sensation, Tilak Varma.

The five-match series is crucial for India, offering a chance to uphold their T20I dominance while ushering in a new era with emerging talents stepping up in the absence of veterans like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.
