Angmo started her journey as a Wushu player. Even she represented India But not from Ladakh as it was under Jammu & Kashmir.
She has silently created history in Indian football. The 34-year-old lady from a remote village in Leh named Saboo has become the first-ever female secretary of the Ladakh Football Association (LFA).
Her name is Tsering Angmo. She started her journey as a Wushu player. Even she represented India But not from Ladakh as it was under Jammu & Kashmir. Angmo speaking from Ladakh over the phone said, “It was painful for every Ladakhi player not being able to represent their own state at the national level. We, the players from Ladakh were also deprived of sports education. So after completing 10th standard I left Jammu and went to Delhi. I played judo, then Wushu. I wanted to play the game more and I needed a sponsor.”
Commenting on how she switched over to football administration being a Wushu player, Angmo added, "While being in search of sponsorship fortunately I had one gentleman named Thery Marcede who was passionate about football. He took me to France. Following his encouragement and initiative I joined Tibet Sports Foundation, the organization which organized tournaments for clubs in Marseille and later I worked with a local club as its manager which helped me to gain a formidable experience in administration."
Angmo returned to Ladakh in 2014. She had the desire to reform football in the Union Territory. She revealed saying, "I always had the desire to do something for Ladakh. So since 2016, I traveled a lot throughout Ladakh, Leh, and other districts, trying to develop playing football in a much more disciplined system by campaigning and motivating the people of Union Territory who are associated with the game as well as trying to get the approval of Ladakh Football Association from the All India Football Federation."
Angmo also divulged saying, "Along with the AIFF top brass I toured to Saudi Arabia where I met Fifa president and secretary. I learned a lot about how to run the game."
LDA finally received the affiliation from AIFF last year and under the leadership of Tsering Angmo, football in Ladakh has already taken off while the women's team, comprising all women footballers from Lakdakh is participating in the ongoing women's national championship in Chhatisgarh. Simultaneously At the same time the initiative taken by this enthusiastic lady helped Ladakh to introduce the first-ever professional football club in Union Territory, 1 Ladakh Football FC.
