Effective immediately, only the designated captain of each team holds the privilege to engage in dialogue with the match officials. Roberto Rosetti, UEFA's managing director of refereeing, underscored the significance of this initiative, emphasizing its role in empowering referees to maintain absolute control over the proceedings on the field. Non-compliance with this directive will not be tolerated, as it signifies a lack of respect towards both the team captain and the officiating body. Any player demonstrating dissent or attempting to engage with the referee without authorization will face disciplinary action in the form of a yellow card.
Furthermore, in a nod to flexibility, UEFA has granted goalkeeper captains the prerogative to nominate an outfield representative to fulfill the role of liaison with the match officials.
