The superstar of Football, Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded with a special award, on Thursday. The UEFA presented CR7 with a special award for being the goal machine with the highest number of goals in the UEFA Champions League, the legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon presented the award.
Ronaldo, who appeared as a player for Sporting Clube de Portugal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, has an astonishing 140 goals in 183 appearances in front of the UEFA Champions League’s net. He is ahead of Lionel Messi by 11 goals.
The UCL Draw ceremony took place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Celebrated Ronaldo’s contribution in the Champions League throughout this 18-year football career.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin stated that
"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the UEFA Champions League constellation. His extraordinary goalscoring achievements in the competition seem destined to stand the test of time, posing a remarkable challenge for future generations to surpass. His sustained excellence at the highest level is a testament to his relentless pursuit of both team and individual honours.”
He further praised his professionalism saying - “Over more than two decades, he has continuously evolved and refined his game while preserving a youthful passion for scoring and celebrating goals. His professionalism, work ethic, dedication and ability to shine on the grandest stage are qualities that football players everywhere should aspire to emulate,".
Ronaldo holds several records such as the highest goal scorer in a single Champions League 2013-14 season, with 17 goals. Also longest Champions League scoring streak, having struck in 11 matches from June 2017 to April 2018.
This award highlights his extraordinary passion and skill for football. Also the continuous efforts and drives for being the best, fishing awards setting new records.
