Unbeaten United Sports glides to the I-League final phase, Steve says Bengal footballers can also perform

United Sports bounced back through the equalizer from Tarak Hembram, Amarendu Chakrabarty, and Jiten Murmu finally via spot-kick.

Steve Herbots is happy to have been unbeaten in the group league finally after having glided to the final phase of the I-League on Saturday with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Diamond Rockstar FC inBalaghat, Madhya Pradesh.

While speaking from Balaghat over the phone, he sounded more happy saying, "Nowadays I observe the football in India has been focused on the North East region. But I feel proud to comment that the footballers from Bengal can also be unbeaten, and can defeat teams of North East. They should be nurtured, given an opportunity."

Trailing by a goal till the break United Sports bounced back through the equalizer from Tarak Hembram, Amarendu Chakrabarty, and Jiten Murmu finally via spot-kick.

Asked whether he has plans to rope in footballers from other states for the final phase, Steve smilingly said, "I do not feel we need to rope in as other states have roped in footballers from Bengal. So, we need to keep faith in these boys' effort and potential."

Anjan Nath the assistant coach of United Sports for more than the last three decades stressed that point while explaining one of the key factors behind the team's success so far. This veteran coach said, “The dependence and confidence in the Bengali footballers are one of the key reasons. Whenever a foreign coach tries to rely on the Bengali and Indian footballers' potential and effort team has got success. This is my observation.”

Nath added, "Elco Satorie was with us. He also depended on the consistency of our Indian footballers mainly. Similarly, Steve has immense faith in Bengali footballers and their sincerity, and the boys are performing. Steve has a quality that he knows to develop relationships with the coaching staff which has created the needed bonding between the footballers and us."
